Work Starts to Prepare Greenwich Park for the 2012 Olympics

Groundwork started this month to prepare the Royal Park at Greenwich (London) for the equestrian events at the London 2012 Olympics.  Work started with soil work in preparation for an irrigation program to reduce the hardness in key areas of the course.  Organizers hope to keep the park open to the public until around 4 weeks before the event.

WEG Ticket Sales - A Mixed Bag

Various report this week have sent mixed signals about ticket sales for this years WEG in Lexington.  

Tickets for the most popular events including the dressage freestyle competition and the individual reining have almost sold out, however organisers have revised total sales targets down to 500,000 from 600,000.  With less than a month to go, sales stand at around 320,000.

Sales of general admissions tickets are expected to peak in the weks leading up to the event, but the message is - If you want to see a specific event, then book now.

Townend Resigns from British WEG Team

Britain's Oliver Townend has withdrawn his horse 'Ashdale Cruise Master' from Britain’s reserve list for the World Equestrian Games in Lexington. According to his website, he has decided instead to concentrate on preparing himself and his horses for next year and qualification for the London Olympics in 2012.

Oliver said: “Next year is going to very important in terms of qualification for the Olympics and it is in everyone’s interests here to prepare well over the coming winter. I want to start that preparation as soon as possible.”
